NEON MIDNIGHT BLUE, '77

I have tasted honeyed tongues

In the shadows of every demon-lover's arms

Who ever seduced me behind my lidded eyes

Or in my tormented mind or body's bed,

Or deep within my strumming, humming bowels

When they ached and yearned and spun me

Wheeling hard toward devouring city lights,

Winging my heels to nightdark streets and neon sidewalks.

Sparkly-spinning colors whirlygigging 'cross the windshields,

Flashing mirrors, flamecurved red and yellow neon

Blaring liquor, coors, bud, pabst, walk, don't walk,

Pussycat triple-X theaters demondark inside for madmen only.

Summerhot redlight night in neon midnight blue, lithe Persian boys,

Darktanned, sleek, with almond eyes a-waiting, hunting, enticing,

Cut-off jeans tumescent-full in barechest jungle streethot breezes,

Hardcold eyes inviting strangerlove on rumpled dirty sheets.

Shadows ease like prowling cats from shady slanted doorways;

Knowing women, inviting — gold-spangled earrings,

Feathered collars, silver-jingle bracelets, black eyes gleaming,

Teethwhite flashing — naked beneath white-black foxfur coats.

Yes, hotskinned bodies, black, tan, white, slitskirts leg-skin flashing,

Pink tongues quick-slithering tee-hee ‘cross the purple laughter,

Knowing well an unknown me, bewildered, lost, desperate, aching,

Lustshocked gaping at tapered legs and eager breastcurves shining.

Demonlover gorgeous sits on sprawling cushions, laughs and smiles,

Aswirl in incense smoke and floating veils, cajoles and promises,

Pervades, invades, alive and urging, pushing, pressing,

Taunting, hating, demeaning, thrusting, cursing, condemning,

Gagging throat, stuffing nostrils, blinding eyes,

Reaching up and around and over the top of pulsing brains,

Smother-drowning down, O midnight blue, sweet stardark descending

Oblivion's rush,

O yes, release, relief,

The mindscape's droning maw.
